Fat Sculptures

"These sculptures were largely created while I was living in self-imposed exile in London. I had left South Africa to avoid conscription into the SADF.

Like the work I produced for my master’s degree, they engage with the deep imprint of militarisation—on the nation as a whole and on me personally, as someone caught in its path.

That earlier body of work wrestled with state power, patriarchy, and the culture of control. These newer pieces continue that conversation, shaped now by distance, reflection, and a different kind of freedom."
